Norfolk & Southern Scheduled to Begin Work

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Last week Norfolk & Southern announced they have scheduled the rail crossing work necessary to complete the new Macedonia quiet zone! The railroad will begin their portion of the work at the Twinsburg Rd. crossing in early November. On September 22nd, Macedonia Mayor Don Kuchta issued an order for work to begin next month on 100′ median dividers required for the project. If things go as planned, the quiet zone should be completed in early 2011. It’s been a long haul, but we can now see the light at the end of the tunnel.

For an indepth look at the milestones of the project and our projected completion date, please refer to www.http://www.macquietzone.com/timeline.html As we get closer to the start date, we’ll post additional updates and information on www.macquietzone.com

Unanimous Approval for the Quiet Zone

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

On Thursday April 22nd the Macedonia City Council voted unanimously in favor of signing the quiet zone agreement with Norfolk & Southern. Make no mistake about it, the ordinance passed because of support from homeowners and developers in the community. Without stepping in to fund the maintenance, this would not have passed. In just four days you turned around donation contracts from Greystone, Valley Creek, the Villas of Tuscany, Ashbrooke, Macedonia One LLC, GSV Developers and Lake Forest committing funds to cover the annual maintenance fees for 16 years!

We have secured $168,323 in Federal Funding which has already been encumbered, meaning it’s there to be spent on something. This project will make the Macedonia Rd Railroad crossing 2.5 times safer which could avert  another railroad crossing tragedy in our community. At the meeting we presented City Council with 7 signed contracts from and developers in the community united in their resolve to get this project done. So, let’s build a quiet zone!

Macedonia City Council Approval, the 3rd Time is the Charm

Friday, April 16th, 2010

On April 8th we asked the City Council for approval on an Ordinance to move forward with the quiet zone agreement. The agreement includes a clause stipulating annual maintenance fees for the quiet zone, renegotiated with Norfolk & Southern @ $1,200, would be paid by the city of Macedonia via the quiet zone fund we are having setup. Despite the fact that we have 100% of area HOAs on board to pay into our quiet zone fund for 10 years and together with Rick Dinallo, John Morris and Ryan Homes contributions, we have the annual maintenance fees funded for the initial 16 years of the quiet zone, Council once again deferred any vote on this issue until their next meeting, April 22th .

The Macedonia Legal department has completed the HOA donation agreements for each of the participating HOAs and we hope to have all paperwork in place by early next week in preparation for our meeting on April 22nd.  Additionally, Norfolk & Southern will have the revised agreements for us be late today or early next week.

We’re in the home stretch. Please join us in support of the quiet zone on April 22, and help put it over the top.
